Everyone is aware of the problem with declining honey bee populations. The Verroa Mite and Tracheal Mite were introduced into Michigan in the 1980’s and have devastated the feral honey bee populations. At Nix Pest Solutions we believe in exhausting every option to not kill honey bees. When you have a honey bee nest in the wall of your home it is a much bigger deal than a hornet or wasp nest. With gallons of honey ready to melt as soon as the bees are not tending to it, and thousands of dead bee bodies after treatment, it can be a big mess. NIX Pest Solutions suggests checking the outside of your home or business weekly during the summer months to watch for a honey bee nest that has found its way into the walls of your home. To look for a nest simply walk slowly around the exterior of your house, looking up and down the walls for a “bee line” a constant stream of bees flying in and out of a hole on the siding of your home. If you find that you have a problem with Honey bees, please do not try and tackle the problem by yourself. Please call in the professionals. Gallons of honey running down interior walls of your home will create an even bigger problem later. The following season “scouts” will be able to smell the honey left in the wall and they will start a new nest in the same spot, causing you another problem. please call Nix Pest Solutions today so we can work together to help get the honey bees out of your home or business.

A honey bee swarm forms when an established nest has grown too large for the space it is in. Around half of the bees leave the hive along with a new queen to find a less crowded place to live. As the new colony breaks off from the existing colony, they will usually congregate on a tree branch, in a bush, or on an overhanging structure to wait while “scout” bees look for a new home. Swarms of honey bees resting is usually when people notice the bees. If you see a bee swarm, please stay away, and leave the swarm alone. Keep all kids and pets away from the swarm. If you see a bee swarm please call nix pest solutions today and we will work to get a beekeeper on site to remove and protect the bees.
