Spiders
On Earth there are over 49,000 different kinds of spiders. However, there are right around 500 species that call Michigan their home. Spiders are arachnids that belong to the same family as mites, ticks, and scorpions. Each species prefers different climates, some like it warm and dry while others like it damp and cool. Most common house spiders spend their whole life indoors and females can lay up to 3,000 eggs at one time.
Most Michigan spiders are nothing more than a nuisance in your home. However, there are four species that can be harmful to you and your pets. There is the Northern Black Widow, Brown Recluse, Yellow Sac Spider, and to a smaller degree the Northern Cobweb Spider.
